Obituary of Joan E. Amann

Mrs. Joan E. Amann, 87, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Joan was born in Malden, MA on June 7, 1930, the daughter of Thomas and Frances (Stern) Entwistle. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On April 11, 1953, Joan was united in marriage to Richard J. Amann at Historic Old St John’s Church in Utica, a devoted union of 38 years until Richard’s death in 1991. For a number of years, Joan was employed with NY Telephone Company in Utica. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, spending time at their summer home in Old Forge and was an avid NY Mets Fan. Joan was also a parishioner of the former Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica.
Mrs. Amann is survived by her daughter, Joan F. Amann of Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard T. and Laurie Amann of Ilion; her cherished grandson, Matthew Amann of MA as well as her extended family, Virginia and Norton Esposito of Utica and Sue Tranquille and Mary Tranquille both of Utica.
Mrs. Amann’s funeral will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, 648 Jay St., Utica, where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Utica, in the Spring. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a Humane Society of your choice, in Joan’s memory.
