Elizabeth M. Gray, of North Utica, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family. Elizabeth was born in Utica on May 6, 1940, the daughter of the late Henry W. and Alice (Coughlin) Jones. Elizabeth was married on December 16, 1977 to David V. Gray, who was employed with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. For many years, Elizabeth was employed with Utica Mutual Insurance Company, Retiring after 35 years of dedicated employment. She and David, along with their close friends of over 50 years, Lois Bormann and Michele Devendorf, shared their love of hiking, singing and making music together. Elizabeth also enjoyed quilting, artistic painting, baking for her family and was awarded recognition for her work of over 20 years as a volunteer with the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. Mrs. Gray is survived by eight brothers and one sister, Thomas (Anna) Jones of Ft. Wayne, IN, William (Sandra) Jones of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Clark (Nelia) Jones of Butuan City, Philippines, Hank Jones of Oriskany Fall, NY, John (Christine) Jones of New York Mills, NY, David Jones of Utica, NY, Douglas (Linda) Jones of Asbury Park, NJ, Jeffrey (Sharon) Jones of Utica, NY and Patricia Wadman of Utica, NY, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband David on July 20, 1997, brother, James (Chipper) Jones and his wife Tina, sister, Alice Thomas and her husband Joe, and two sisters-in-law, Diane Jones and Cynthia Jones. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the Adirondack Historical Society, PO Box 513, Old Forge, NY 13420 or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413.
