John K. (Jack) Jecko, Sr., 89, of Utica and formerly of Sauquoit passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Jack was born in Utica on February 8, 1928, a son of Edward and Florence (Becktel) Jecko, Sr. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Jack was united in marriage to Dolores Murawski on June 5, 1948 at St. Patrick's Church, Utica, a blessed union of 53 years until her passing in 2001. He was employed with Canterbury Press and later until his retirement with Bendix Corp. After his retirement Jack worked at Stonebridge Golf Course and the New Hartford Senior Center. He attended St. John The Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Jack was an avid photographer, enjoyed woodworking, projects around his home and camp, and the New York Yankees. He loved hunting with friends, fishing with family, and golfing with both. Some of his fondest memories were at his family camp on Canadarago Lake where all of his family, and several friends, spent a lot of time over the years. Jack is survived by a daughter, Jill Hartman and husband, Michael, of Newton, MA, a son, John (Jack) Jecko, Jr., of Englewood, FL, three grandchildren, Jeremy Hartman and wife, Lindsay, of Hopkinton, MA, Joshua Hartman, of Whitesboro and Jody Hartman Olah and husband, Hunter, of Whitesboro, three great grandchildren, Lila Hartman, Nina Hartman and Adelynn Olah and a dear friend, Colette Pierce, of Deansboro. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Emma Jecko, nephews, James Jecko, Jeffrey Jecko and Edward Jecko III and several great nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by a brother, Edward Jecko, Jr. Mr. Jecko's funeral will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from St. John The Evangelist Church, New Hartford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clayville. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 2-5. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Heart Association in Jack's memory.
