Mrs. Lydia Dolores Flansburg, 74, of Marcy and Florida formerly of Whitesboro, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Albany Medical Center Hospital with her loving family by her side. Lydia was born in Utica on March 28, 1943 the daughter of William and Dolores (Maikranz) Whitaker. She was raised and educated in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and earned her LPN license locally. On September 8, 1962, Lydia married Merrill G. Flansburg at St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica, a loving union of 44 years until Merrill’s death in 2006. For many years, she was employed as a LPN with Faxton Hospital in Utica retiring in 2000. Lydia recently started attending services at Maynard United Methodist Church, was a very active member of Silver Lake Community Church in Leesburg, FL and was also active with the Bonfire Mobil Park in Fl. She enjoyed playing bingo and her greatest joy was spending time with her girls. Mrs. Flansburg is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Freeman and Sean Potempa of Marcy; son, Jeffery Flansburg of Binghamton; six cherished grandchildren, Deana Handzel and her husband Christopher of Marcy, Tracy Acee of Cleveland, NY, Kelly Flansburg of Whitesboro, Mysti Potempa of VA, Erica Barton and her husband Tyler of VA and Patrick Scanlon of Clinton; one sister, Cheryl Webb of New Hampshire; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Mark and Leslie Whitaker of Whitesboro, Michael and Beverly Whitaker of FL, James and Joann Whitaker of Marcy and Paulette Whitaker of Poland, NY as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Toby. She was predeceased by a brother, William Whitaker, II. Mrs. Flansburg’s funeral will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Her burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica at the convenience of her family. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 1:00-4:00 prior to the service.
