Mr. Ronald P. Martel, 86, of Deerfield, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Ronald was born in Watervliet, NY on September 1, 1931, the son of Richard and Grace (Young) Martel and attended Catholic High School in Troy, NY. On September 13, 1953, Ronald married Jean L. Salerno at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy, a loving union of nearly 59 years until Jean's death in 2012. In 1974, Ronald was co-founder of Marcy Discount Beverage Center. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards with his friends, spending time in the outdoors, attending his grandchildren's sporting events and his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family. Ronald was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Martel is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy and Michael MacDonald of Utica and Patricia Martel of Mohawk; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Karen Martel of Trenton and Paul and Ann McGee Martel of Oriskany; four cherished grandchildren, Craig Martel and his wife Kristina of Floyd, Nathaniel Martel of Oriskany, Samuel Martel of Oriskany and Devin Feldmeyer of Rome; two adored great grandchildren, Arianna and Eric; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Meryl Popp of Cohoes, NY and Irma and John Behuniak of Ft. Meyers, FL; a special caregiver, Erin Calhoun of Clinton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Martel's funeral will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville.
