Mr. William T. Wheatley, Sr., 75, of Clinton, passed away September 27, 2017 in his home with his family by his side. William was born in Lowville, NY on June 28, 1941. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from UFA. He took pride in his service with the US Army in 1963, stationed in Germany. He was known to many as Uncle Bill or Poppy, regularly entertaining for family and friends & spending the weekends baking bread with his grandchildren. Other passions include football, NASCAR & trips to Jamaica. His motto was "don't worry about a thing" as he enjoyed his VO manhattans & the music of Bob Marley. Early in life he owned the Gulf Station followed by Bill's Plumbing & Heating. He found enjoyment in antiquing and his limousine business. In his free time he built a 57 Chevy, racing it locally and motorcycling. Bill grew up as part of a large family of eleven brothers and sisters. He held a special place in his heart for his previously deceased mother, Gladys Wheatley. Bill married his first former wife, Suzanne Lorraine and together they had four children; William & Robin Wheatley of New Hartford, Tricia & Bob Bonner of Frankfort, Lorrie Wheatley and Jim Purcell of Whitesboro & Karen Wheatley and John Carey of Cassville. Poppy had a special place in his heart for his 7 grandchildren; Krystal Wheatley, Danielle & Christopher Lansdall, Amanda, Joel and Adrienna Barney and Jordan Wheatley as well as 9 great grandchildren. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday, (today) September 30, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. A prayer and a time to share memories will follow at the conclusion of the visitation. The family extends sincere appreciation for the support of Hospice.
