Obituary of Mary Alteri Evans

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Alteri Evans, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017. For 3 long months, this incredibly strong woman fought to regain her strength after surgery. Throughout her life, she persevered through many obstacles. Always a fighter, she imparted her wisdom on how to move forward after a devastating loss. There really are no words, just indescribable feelings, to convey how very much she will be missed. It’s hard to say goodbye, there is pain and sadness, but she leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance through adversity, a lesson well learned. Mary was born on January 14, 1932 in Watertown, NY, the daughter of John and Laura Alteri. She worked for the family restaurant, Alteri’s, since its opening in 1953. She continued to work, and enjoy her time there right up until her passing. There was never a discussion regarding retirement, at the age of 85, she thought she was still young. At one time she was married to the late Jack Evans, a union that brought her four children. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she resided, Debbie and Russ Handley, her son, David Evans and Debbie Konefal, her daughter, Doreen Evans and Allan Villeneuve; her grandchildren, Brittney Paye, Kallie Handley and her boyfriend, Hunter Brown, and John Evans; sister and brother-in-law, Olga and Bernie Attili; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Albert Alteri, Augie and Ida Alteri. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including Bea Romano. She is predeceased by her son John A. Evans, her grandson, Evan J. Paye, and her granddaughter, Cinthia Reed. She is also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Beverly Alteri, sister-in-law, Dorothy Alteri, and her nephew, John Attili. Mrs. Evan’s funeral will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A private interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2 – 5 pm. Those wishing may donate to a charity of your choice in Mary’s memory. The family offers a special thanks to Dr. James Cesare for the care and compassion shown to Mary during her illness.
