Obituary of Edward E. Briggs

Mr. Edward E. Briggs, 54, of Utica, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford after a courageous battle with cancer. Ed was surrounded by his sweetheart and loving family at the time of his passing.
Edward was born in Auburn, NY on April 18, 1963 the son of Joseph M. and Marie C. (Curtis) Briggs. Ed was a graduate of J.F.K. High School in N. Utica and attended Rutgers University on a scholarship. For many years, he was employed with Service Master of Utica. Ed was an avid baseball fan especially the NY Yankees, a huge Oakland Raiders fan, and a running enthusiast, who in 1979, became the only Utica city school district runner to win the NY State cross country championship. He also enjoyed playing pitch and was instrumental in starting the former pitch league at American Legion Utica Post 229. Edward was of the Baptist faith but also enjoyed attended Mass at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church in Utica with his sweetheart, Anne Marie. Mr. Briggs is survived by his rock and love of his life, Anne Marie DiCesare of Utica; six brothers and sisters, Joe and Madeline Briggs of Utica, Dick and Ann Briggs of Utica, Tom and Joy Briggs of Ephrata, PA, Mary Beth and Jerry Smith of Utica, Tim and SinAe Briggs of Justus, PA and his sister and best friend, Carrie Powers and Curtis Estes of Virginia Beach, VA; in-laws, Annette and Francis Paparella of Utica, Joanne Bonvicino of Utica, Richard and Cindy DiCesare of NC and Mary DiCesare of Sherburne, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marie Briggs and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buster and Mary DiCesare.
Mr. Briggs' memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 11:00-1:00 prior to the memorial service.
Ed remembers coach Paniccia and coach Convertino who forever called him champ throughout the years. Your support will forever be appreciated beyond words. A special thank you to Chris Sebastian, for your encouragement during Ed's horrific illness. Our gratitude is also extended to the nurses and staff on the 6th floor oncology unit at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, and Dr. Samir Desai and his Physicians Assistant, Windy for the wonderful care you provided to Eddie.
