Dorothy S. O'Toole, 93, of Acacia Village, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with her family by her side. Dorothy was born in Utica on May 15, 1924, the daughter of James H. and Eleanor (Clark) Schmidt, Sr. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On August 2, 1947 she married Howard F. O'Toole at St. Francis de Sales Church, a marriage of 49 years until Howard’s death on May 29, 1996. For many years, Dorothy was employed by General Electric at both the Broad Street and French Road locations. She was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Dorothy is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. William G. (Vivian) Schmidt, fifteen nieces and nephews and a further extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers, James H. Schmidt, Jr. and William G. Schmidt. Mrs. O'Toole's funeral will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica and at 11:00 from Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 PM – 7 PM.
