Ernest W. Schiffinger, III, 64, of Westmoreland passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Ernest was born August 16, 1952 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of Ernest W. II and Margaret (Erb) Schiffinger. He was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from Utica Schools. Ernest served his country with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Ernest had worked in several occupations including self-employed electrician, transmission technician at Utica Hydromatic, local school bus driver at Birnie Bus, and a Class A Hazmat driver at Adirondack Gases. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica. He belonged to the Whitestown American Legion Post #1113. Ernest could always be found working on a car in his spare time and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ernest was predeceased by his longtime companion, Marylou Murphy, his eldest brother Karl Schiffinger, and his eldest sister Mary Sweeney. Ernest is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mandie and Jonathan Faffley, their children, Jacob Ingersoll and Brody and Caleb Faffley; five siblings Desiree Mincey and family, Robin Schiffinger and family, Kristine Goff and family, Shaun L. Schiffinger and family, Kevin Schiffinger and family, as well as a sister-in-law Melody (Dee-Dee) Schiffinger and family. He is also survived by many step-children, nieces, and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 5-7 pm.
