Marcy – Josephine Kallas, 95, of Marcy, wife of the late George T. Kallas, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at the HPCI Siegenthaler Center with her family at her side. Josephine was born on June 11, 1922 in Marcy, NY, the daughter of Onufry and Salomea (Lukaszyk) Baszko. She was raised and educated locally, and went on to graduate from the Utica School of Beauty Culture. On January 19, 1952, Josephine married George T. Kallas in Utica. Mr. Kallas passed away on May 11, 1991. For many years, Josephine was self employed as a hairdresser, and later went to work for Bradley’s Dept. Store, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Louis Gonzaga Church, Utica. Josephine had been a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post # 1376 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the North Utica Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Josephine is survived by her two daughters and a son-in-law, Marena Kallas, Marcy; Camille and Jeffrey Oczkowski, South Carolina; a granddaughter, Camrey Kallas Oczkowski, Washington, DC; a sister, Julia Roczen, Whitesboro. She is predeceased by her parents, Onufrey and Salomea Baszko; two sisters and their spouses, Helen and Walter Kraus, Stella and Ray Romanick and their daughter, Helena Palmer; her brother and his spouse, John and Sophie Bosco and their son, Wayne, and daughter, Dawn Sroka; her brother in-law, Edward Roczen, and two grandnephews, Michael Basile and Brian Roczen. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews, her sister Helen's two daughters, Dorothy Bailey and Carolann Kraus; her sister Stella's two daughters and son, Arlene Dziekan, Barbara Chudy and Ray Romanick; her sister Julia's daughter and son, Stephanie Basile and Steve Roczen, and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews; she loved each and every one of you. Mrs. Kallas' funeral rites will be officiated by Chorbishop John D. Faris of St Louis Gonzaga Church on Friday, 6:30 PM at Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:30–6:30 PM prior to the service. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, will take place at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may donate to St. Louis Gonzaga Church or to HPCI Siegenthaler Center in Josephine’s memory. The family would like to thank Dr. Ulahannan and his staff as well as the nurses and staff of the HPCI Siegenthaler Center, and Dee, her helper, for the care and compassion shown to Josephine.
