Donald L. Palmer, 88, of North Utica, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the St. Luke's Home. Donald was born in Rochester, NY on July 21, 1929 a son of the late John W. and Irene A. (Wolff) Palmer. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy . On May 20, 1950 Donald was united in marriage to Beverly Dougherty a blessed union of 65 years until her death on September 20, 2015. Donald was appointed to the Utica Police Department on October 16, 1951. He was made a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division on November 16, 1964, and promoted to the rank of Sergeant on May 21, 1969. He also served as a motorcycle officer until his retirement on April 12, 1974. He was later employed with Oneida National Bank and William Morris Real Estate. Donald is survived by his loving children, Karen Rose of Whitesboro, Kristine Dean of Utica, Stephen Palmer of Baldwinsville, Kathleen Williams and husband, David of Marcy, Bethanne Donovan and husband, Daniel of Baldwinsville, five grandchildren, Jason Williams and wife, Mary of NH, Justin Palmer and wife, Cheryl of Waterville, John Palmer of CO, Garry Rose and wife, Angie of Madison, NY, and Connor Donovan of Baldwinsville, and three great grandchildren, Benjamin Williams, James and Logan Rose. The family would like to extend special thanks to Donald's caregivers Frank, Liz, Aiden and Yvette. Private funeral services for Mr. Palmer will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make a donation to a charity of their choice in Donald's memory.
