David H. Neejer, 68, of Whitesboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare with his loving family by his side. David was born in Utica on July 4, 1949, a son of Harold and Marie (Doane) Neejer. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. David was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the 101st Airborne and was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star. On September 19, 1981, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, David was united in marriage to Barbara Rose Leahy. For 23 years, he was employed as a corrections officer at Midstate Correctional Facility retiring as a sergeant in 2010. David was an outdoor enthusiast especially fond of the Adirondacks. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking specializing in cabinet making. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Neejer is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughter, Dr. Christine Neejer and her partner, Kristin Staley, of Ann Arbor, MI, one sister and brother-in-law Mary Anne and Scott Debbold of Cassville; his first best friend, Kevin Neejer, of Utica, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial Mass for Mr. Neejer, will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. His Rite of Committal and burial, with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. There are no callings hours.
