Obituary of Thomas Joseph Fletcher
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Joseph Fletcher, 23, of Jamesville and Forestport, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22 in Hollywood, Florida.
Thomas, son of Theresa (Wameling) Ancone and Stephen Fletcher, was born in New Hartford, NY, on May 30, 1993. Thomas was a charismatic, loving, caring all-around awesome young man. If you were lucky to know him, you loved him. Thomas attended Jamesville DeWitt schools until he decided to transfer to Adirondack High School, where he graduated with High Honors, specializing in the BOCES Criminal Justice Program. He continued his studies briefly at Mohawk Valley Community College. Throughout his schooling he was a member of the Band and Jazz Band, as well as the Football, Track & Field, and Wrestling Teams. In addition to being athletic, Tommy excelled at playing the trumpet and was an accomplished bass player. He was also quite an aspiring artist, a gift he got from his father. Thomas’ love of the written word and music inspired him to start “spitting bars”.
When Thomas was home in Jamesville, he cherished his time with his family, especially with his mom and sister, Madi. His love for both of them was immeasurable. He and his sister had a mutual love and adoration for each other. It was a joy to watch them together. They never disagreed. He would listen to her intently and always play games with her. They would love to tease their mom together to the point all she could do was shake her head and start laughing. They shared a love of fishing and enjoyed their yearly family travels.
When Thomas was home in Forestport, he shared his love of the outdoors with his family and friends by camping, fishing, and hiking. He and his father enjoyed taking walks, having time to just enjoy each other with conversation and laughter. The two shared a quirky language only known to them. Thomas loved to build things, helping his dad work on the house that he would someday own. On several occasions, Tommy would join his father’s band Slug to play a special song he and his father shared “Dark Hollow”.
When Thomas decided the college life wasn’t for him, he traveled the country, Coast to Coast many times, making many friends along the way. He held various jobs. He had a love for cooking, and had plans to attend culinary school in the near future. He was a great guy to be around, always kind and polite to everyone he met. His smile would light up a room; his character would draw you in.
Thomas fought hard with addiction the last several years of his life. There was no one who fought harder and advocated with unconditional love for him more than his mother. Addiction coupled with mental illness is a vicious disease. Momma just wants you to know she is proud of your fight and will continue to love you, every day. Thomas leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother and step-father, Theresa and Dr. Leonard Ancone, and sister Madilyn, his father and step-mother Stephen and Kellie Fletcher and step-sister Cass, grandparents David and Sharon Wameling and Martha Fletcher, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Thomas was pre-deceased by his grandfather, Clifford Fletcher. A special shout-out to Uncle Joe Wameling, Aunt Annie Wais and special friends Derrick, Josh, Makayla, Tyler and Brandi. We all love you and miss you.
