Norma J. Clarke, 83, of North Utica passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 in Scotia, NY. Norma was born in Utica, a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Carroll, Sr. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a 1953 graduate of Utica Free Academy. On May 4, 1957 Norma was united in marriage to William W. Clarke a blessed union of 45 years until his death on May 7, 2002. Prior to her marriage Norma was employed at Utica Mutual Ins. Co. She later worked as a carrier counselor for the Utica Observer Dispatch and retired in 1998 from Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute. She was a member of St. Mark's Church, North Utica Senior Center, ABC Cancer Society, Christ the King Shrine in Marcy and Priests 4 Life. Norma did volunteer work for the Samaritan Soup Kitchen, March of Dimes, Red Cross and Arthritis Foundation. Norma also won recognition as a poet with her many poems. Norma is survived by her four children, James R. Clarke and wife, Robin, of Cazenovia, NY, Donald J. Clarke, of Ketchikan, AK, Thomas G. Clarke, of Utica, NY and Jeanne M. McLaughlin and husband, Kevin, of Glenville, NY, five grandchildren, Alicia Clarke, Thomas and Vincent Clarke, Conor and Sean McLaughlin, two great grandsons, Thomas and Ayden, two sisters, Nancy Burns, of Utica, NYand Joan Youngdale, of Hornell, NY, a brother, William Carroll, Jr., of Albany, NY and many beloved in-laws, family members, good neighbors and church friends. Norma was predeceased by a son, Stephen W. Clarke in 1960. Mrs. Clarke's funeral will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Center in memory of Norma's son Stephen.
