Mrs. Louise M. Lorig, 99, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY in New Hartford, formerly of N. Utica, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the nursing home. Louise was born in Williamsville, NY on January 26, 1918 the daughter of Gustav and Louise (Brust) Hellert and was a graduate of Williamsville High School. On September 30, 1939 in Buffalo, NY, Louise married Gordon J. Lorig, a loving and devoted union of 70 years until Gordon's death in 2009. Louise enjoyed painting, sewing, ceramics and reading but her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in N. Utica. Mrs. Lorig is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Richard Scholl of New Hartford; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon J., Jr. and Linda Lorig of Morristown, NJ; four cherished grandchildren, Dr. Rebecca Lorig and her husband Clifford Corcoran of Morristown, NJ, Erica Haver and her husband Greg of Poland, NY, Laura Yenco and her husband Steven of Coventry, CT and Richard Scholl, Jr. and his wife Tracey of Toano, VA; six adored great grandchildren, Troy Gilbert Haver, Amelia Louise Corcoran, Kade Gordon Haver, Madelyn Ann Yenco, Wyatt Steven Yenco and Brayden Michael Scholl as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Hellert. There are no calling hours. Mrs. Lorig's funeral and entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Utica will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Those wishing to make a donation in Louise's memory, please consider the activities department at the Presbyterian Home, 4290 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13414. Mrs. Lorig's family extends their heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation to the entire staff on the Maple Unit at the Presbyterian Home for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Louise. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., N. Utica.
