Obituary of Robert J. Johnson
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert J. Johnson passed away March 29, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. During his illness he was surrounded by family and friends who cared deeply for him. Robert (Bob) was born March 14, 1944, the beloved son of Charles H. Johnson and Mary Kaminski Johnson in Utica. Bob attended local schools and was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College. Bob joined the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Damato for four years. Bob loved serving in the military but most of all loved being a “sailor.” He had a long career of 38 ½ years at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center where he thoroughly enjoyed his co-workers and the people he served. He would still be employed except for his poor health. Bob was predeceased by both parents, his brother Charles, his sister Rose Marie and two brothers-in-law, George M. Lein and David B. Murdock. He is survived by his daughter, Mary May and Dallas Sheppard; his sisters Catherine Johnson, Mary Lein and Patricia Murdock; and sister-in-law Rose Marie Johnson. Nieces and nephews, Mary Catherine and Ken Warren; Mark Johnson; Kim and Ed Wessinger and their son Zachary; Christopher and Patti Lein and their children Izabella, Christopher and Harper; and Michael and Kristen Skobla. Special cousins who were always there for Bob: Natalie and Bud McGraw, Elizabeth Morelli and Erin Abrams and family. Bob’s obituary would not be complete without the mention of these two people who meant so much to him and were there for him during the good and bad times of his life, Karen Boucher and Lenny Soron. Thank you. A special thank you to Karen Sikora for keeping the bird feeders filled and the sidewalks clear. Thank you to Mary Milone for being such a good neighbor. In accordance to Bob’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be offered by Father LaFache at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church onSaturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Expression of sympathy can be shown by a nature-related act of kindness or appreciation such as planting a tree, feeding the birds or taking a moment to enjoy the outdoors.
