Mrs. Rose Marie Buttenschon Thompson, 70, of Utica, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her family by her side. Rose was born in Ilion on April 2, 1947 the daughter of Maynard and Florence (Juliano) Buttenschon. She was raised in Utica and attended local schools. On August 6, 1966, Rose married William Peter Thompson at St. Patrick’s Church in Utica. For many years, she was employed with Univac, Chicago Pneumatic and Utica Corporation. At one time, she was owner and operator of The Hole in The Wall Bar and Grill and most recently, the Hylander Tavern in Utica. Rose enjoyed bowling and traveling to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She also spent time dabbling in Real Estate but her greatest joy came from spending time with her cherished grandchildren. She was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Thompson is survived by two wonderful children whom she adored; Anita Thompson and Mark of Utica and William J. Thompson and Cortney of Utica; four cherished grandchildren, Nicole Robinson and her husband Artie, Stephanie Thompson, Matthew Thompson and Michael Thompson; an adored great granddaughter, Madison Rose; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marylou Mattice, Josephine and Walter Kurgan and Anita and Paul Cleveland; a sister-in-law, Christine Buttenschon as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, William, sister, Dorothy Buttenschon, brother, Louis Buttenschon as well as an infant brother, a brother-in-law, Arnold Mattice and longtime friend and companion, Dick Neri. Mrs. Thompson’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
