Verna (Albrecht) DeLuccie, went to heaven to be reunited with her loved ones who passed before her on Friday, March 24, 2017. She passed away at the age of 91 peacefully at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center in Ilion, New York. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Verna was born on January 26, 1926 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Frederick and Verna Barnickel Albrecht. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. On May 19, 1945, Verna married Edward J. DeLuccie. She was employed by General Electric; an accomplished seamstress; avid pinochle player; loved to knit and crochet; enjoyed baking especially pies; and above all a devoted and compassionate mother especially to her special needs son. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the North Utica Senior Citizen Center, and the Schuyler Senior Citizen Center. Verna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dennis Pogar Sr. of Titusville, Florida, two sons Frederick and Sandy DeLuccie of Camden, New York and Edward DeLuccie of Gan Kavod, New Hartford, New York; six grandchildren Dennis (Tyra) Pogar Jr. of Texas, Jason (Lindsey) Pogar of South Carolina, Jonathan (Heather) Pogar of Florida; Frederick (Andrea) DeLuccie of Florida, Amanda DeLuccie of New York, Mark DeLuccie (Melissa) of Florida; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. Verna was predeceased by her husband Edward of 68 years, a grandson, Vincent DeLuccie, and a brother Russell Albrecht. In keeping with the family wishes, there are no public calling hours. A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Mohawk Valley Health Center’s admissions coordinator, nurse practitioner, nurses, aides and entire staff for their outstanding care, support and unsurpassed compassion. In addition a special thank you to Craig, Faith, Mark and Amanda.
