Utica- Jane M. Skermont, 83, of Utica, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her family by her side. Jane was born on July 27, 1933, in Rensselaer, NY, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Hover) Hardt. She was raised and educated in Utica. On September 27, 1952, Jane married Donald H. Skermont in St. George’s Church, Utica, sharing a union of over 64 years. She had been employed with General Electric in Utica for over 25 years, retiring in 1987. Jane was a former member of St. George’s Church in Utica, and currently a member of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church in Utica. She enjoyed spending time at the casino. For many years she had vacationed in Florida with her husband. Jane loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jane is survived by her beloved husband, Donald Skermont, Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald R. and Beth Skermont, Deerfield; a brother (that she raised from a very young age) and sister-in-law, William and Ann Marie Ruth, N. Utica; four grandchildren and their spouses, Richard and Erika Skermont, Nathan and Ayla Skermont, Dana Ruth-Setek, and Carey Ann and James Connors; six great grandchildren, Theo and Libby Skermont, Rachel and Jennifer Setek, Jennie Ann and Callie Ann Connors; a sister-in-law, Virginia Hardt, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews, including a special niece and her husband, Sharon and Tim Hanrahan. Also surviving is her dear friend Mary Della Gala, Utica. Jane is predeceased by a brother, Charles Hardt. Mrs. Skermont’s funeral will take place on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her interment in St. George’s Cemetery, Whitesboro will take place privately in the spring. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Those wishing may donate to the American Diabetes Association or for masses in Jane’s memory at St. Anthony & St Agnes Church.
