Berton L. Moon, 67, of Utica entered into eternal life on Friday, January 6, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Berton was born in Utica on February 16, 1949, a son of Berton and Violet (Wishart) Moon. He was a 1966 graduate of Whitesboro High School. Berton was a veteran of the US Navy and served aboard the USS Dahlgren. On November 28, 1970 in Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica, Berton was united in marriage to Kathryn Cipolla. He was employed with the Upper Mohawk Valley Water Authority for 44 years until his retirement in 2013. Berton was an avid golfer and bowler and a diehard NY Giants, NY Yankees, Boston Bruins fan and season ticketholder for the Comets. Most important Berton was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Berton is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy, his children, Scott Moon, of Utica, Kristina Moon and fiance, Kip Simpson, of Utica, and Michael Moon and wife, Stephanie, of Delmar, NY, six grandchildren, Bryan, Kaitlyn and Brandon Moon, Utica and Trever, Kylianna and Cameron Moon, Delmar,a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Moon, Lake Mary, FL, two brothers, Ronald L. Moon, of Holland Patent, and Gary A. Moon, of the Phillipines, two nephews, Ronald E. Moon, of Whitesboro and Richard Moon, of Costa Rica and close friends, Loren and Mary Taurisano, of Schuyler. A funeral service for Mr. Moon will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 7:15 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday evening from 4-7:15. Those so wishing may make donations to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society or the American Cancer Society in Berton's memory.
