Obituary of Richard Allen Jardine

Mr. Richard Allen Jardine, 75, of Marcy, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford with his loving family by his side.
Richard was born in Bovina Center, NY on December 25, 1943, the son of Raymond and Mary (Hyzer) Jardine. He was raised and educated in Bovina Center and was a graduate of Andes High School. Richard earned his Bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Oneonta and Master’s degree in education from SUNY Cortland. On October 10, 1970, in New Hartford, Richard married Leanne C. Wagner. He was later united in marriage with Douglas S. Pierce on August 18, 2018 at Delta Lake Inn in Rome. For many years, Richard was employed as a teacher with the Whitesboro Central School District. After his retirement from Whitesboro, he became an Adjunct Professor at Herkimer County Community College. Richard was very active with Health Friends Oneida County, was a member of Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189, a member and past president of Marcy Seniors, and in 2015, was recognized as the Oneida County Senior Citizen of the Year. He was also a member of Maynard United Methodist Church, St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in Utica and a former member of St. Leo’s Church in Holland Patent. Richard enjoyed gardening, flowers, decorating for Christmas and especially enjoyed studying scripture and attending bible study at the Good News Center in Deerfield. He will be remembered as a dog lover, especially his canine companions, Dexter and Sam.
Mr. Jardine is survived by his husband, Douglas Pierce; two sisters, Marian Jardine and Martha Musgrove both of Oneonta; mother-in-law, Gertrude Boyd of Oxford, NY; Godson, James Wagner of Clay, NY; sister-in-law, Leota Hendrix of Mount Upton, NY; dear friend, Amy Flagler of Naples, NY; his former wife, Leanne Jardine of Deerfield and his canine companions, Dexter and Sam.
Calling hours for family and friends are Friday, January 11, 2019 from 11:00-a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Maynard United Methodist Church, 9626 Maynard Dr., Maynard, NY followed by a service to celebrate Richard’s life at 2:00 p.m. His burial will be held at the convenience of his family.
