Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary went to be with her husband Howard and daughter Nancy on Monday evening, October 24, 2016 in the comfort of her home. Mary was born in Utica on November 8, 1928, a daughter of Robert and Katherine (Collins) Alexander. On April 28, 1951 Mary was united in marriage to Howard L. Peters at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, a blessed union of 59 years until his death on December 17, 2010. For many years until her retirement in 1988 she was employed with Verizon. Mary was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church, a member of the guild of the church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Mary was a remarkable woman who always considered others before herself. Her faith was strong and deep and carried her home. She was always there if you needed anything as a wife, mother and friend. A die hard Red Sox and Patriots Fan, she got more enjoyment watching the Yankees lose than Boston win. Mary is survived by her four children, Maryann Long, of Whitesboro, Mark Peters and wife, Nancy, of Flower Mound, TX, Thomas Peters, of Holland Patent and Daniel Peters and wife, Beth, of Las Cruces, NM, six grandchildren, William Slivinski and wife, Sarah, Joshua Peters, Jamie Roberts and husband, Scott, Meghan Peters, Sean Peters and Brett McCloskey, 6 great grandchildren, Paige Elizabeth Roberts, Arin Lucille Roberts, Charlotte McCloskey, Hannah Slivinski, Andrew Slivinski and Ryan Slivinski, a brother, James Alexander and wife, Kathleen, of Hanover, PA and a daughter-in-law, Luann Peters, of Rome. Mary was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Peters and a son-in-law, David Long. Mrs. Peters funeral will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:00 from Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. The family will greet people at the conclusion of the Mass. Those so wishing may make donations to the Abraham House, Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
