Sylvan Beach, James H. Wurz, Jr., aged 89 years of Sylvan Beach, New York died on Wednesday, September 14,2016 after a five month battle with cancer. Jim would like to be, and is, identified as a man of faith in Jesus Christ, of family and of business. Along with his brother Edward, Jim was the Patriarch of a generation at Bonide Products Inc. of Oriskany, New York, a company founded by his father in 1926. Mr Wurz was born in Utica, New York, to James H. Wurz Sr. of Utica and Rose Thomas Wurz of Liverpool, England. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from Syracuse University Utica College campus with a degree in Business. On September 13, 1952 he married Mary Eileen Ryan, the love of his life, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, New York. They had five children: Rosanne Wurz Keane (and Mike Keane) of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Nancy Wurz of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, James J. Wurz (and Debbie Wurz) of Whitesboro, New York, Suzie (Thuthie) Wurz of Sylvan Beach, New York, and Thomas M. Wurz (and Michelle Wurz) of Wilmington, North Carolina. Mr. Wurz lived his faith as a member of his parish community at St Mary of the Lake Mission in Sylvan Beach, serving as lecturer, catechist, choir member and Eucharist Minister. Mr. Wurz is pre deceased by his wife Mary Eileen Ryan Wurz, his sister Jacqueline Wurz Albicker, and his brothers-in-law, George Albicker, James J Ryan,Sr. and Joseph Ryan, and his nephews James J.Ryan, Jr., Curtis Wurz, Michael Ryan and Peter Wurz Ziobro, his great-niece Kelsey Ryan Folmer and Kevin Aldridge, his daughter-in-law Debbie Wurz' brother. Mr. Wurz is survived by his five children, twenty-one grand children,three great-grand children, his sister in law, Carol Harder Ryan and his favorite brother Edward Wurz. The calling hours will be at Heintz funeral home at 408 Herkimer Rd North Utica, on Friday,September 23,2016 from 4-7pm. His funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Lake Mission Church in Sylvan Beach at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 24,2016. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the American Cancer Society.
