Mr. Peter Hartman, 77, of Whitesboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Peter was born in Utica on July 7, 1939 the son of Louis Peter and Jeannie (Gnatek) Hartman, Sr. He was raised and educated in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology in Ft. Wayne, IN. in 1962, Peter married Eileen Paul at St. Joseph's Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 53 years. Peter was employed as a mechanical engineer with Bendix Corp in Utica, General Electric Company in Utica and ITT in Roanoke, VA. After returning to the area, Peter continued his career with General Electric and Lockheed Martin in Syracuse retiring in 1999. Peter enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing and was a parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica. He also loved to attend his grandson's football games at CBA in Syracuse where he was their biggest fan. Mr. Hartman is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Bob Battaglia of Syracuse and Donna and Mark Carelli of FL; eight cherished grandchildren, Joseph Battaglia, Jennifer Battaglia, Bobby Battaglia, Peter Battaglia, Michael Carelli, Lauren Carelli, Jessica Carelli, and Jenna Carelli; his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Joseph Chiarello of Yorkville; beloved aunt, Caroline Kupinski of Utica; a cousin, Nancy Kupinski of FL; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Ronald Zyskowski of Utica, Lorraine and David Astafan of New Hartford and Carolyn and Bob McNamara of Cleveland, NY as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hartman's funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church in Utica where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Committal and entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Please omit floral offerings and consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. in Peter's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Hartman's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. especially Tina, Dr. William Ryan and Dr. Alicia DeTraglia and her nurses and staff for the loving care and compassion you provided to Peter. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
