Obituary of Norman E. Morelli
Please share a memory of Norman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Norman E. Morelli, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Norman was born in Mechanicville, NY on March 7, 1942 the son of Chester and Myrtle (White) Morelli. He was educated in Mechanicville Public Schools and was a graduate of Schenectady Community College. Norman proudly served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam. After returning home from Vietnam, Norman worked with Grand Union Grocery Store and for many years at Norman Skill Dairy. On August 18, 1989 Norman married Dolores Zalandkofski and shared 26 loving years with her until her passing on November 12, 2015. In his retirement, Norman was an active member and past governor with the Utica Moose Lodge where he loved working in the kitchen and cooking. He was also a member of the VFW post in Utica and Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. In his younger years, he was a boy scout leader in Schenectady. Norman enjoyed going on country rides, watching old Western movies, caring for his beloved cats, and spending time with his many grandchildren. He also loved cooking his favorite Italian foods and desserts and most looked forward to his annual 4th of July cookout at Hinckley Lake every summer. Although a family of split Mets and Yankees fans surrounded him, Norman insisted he was a “New York” sports fan and supported both teams. Mr. Morelli is survived by his brother's Chester Morelli of Mechanicville, NY and Albert Morelli of Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Shirley Walters of Poestenkill, NY and Alice Marble of Troy, NY; He is also survived by his children, all of Schenectady, NY, Norman Morelli Jr., Tammy Morelli, Roy Morelli, Lisa Cassidy, and Laura Morelli, and his step-children, Robin Julian, Paul Julian, James F. Gagnon Jr. (Dale), Susette Majtan (Jack), Jeffrey Gagnon (Margie), Mary Cornette (Brad), Bernadine Gagnon (Jim), and Ann Welch (Jeff) who lovingly cared for both her mother Dolores and Norman throughout their illnesses. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his special nieces Debra and Megan Kingsley. He was predeceased by his wife, Dolores Morelli, daughter Coral Morelli, his sisters Julia Morelli, Rosemary Williams, Kathleen Film, and brothers Henry Morelli and Donald Morelli. A private funeral service has been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502 in Norman's memory.
