Obituary of William Kowiatek

Mr. William (Bill) Kowiatek, 81, a lifelong Utica resident went to his Heavenly home assisted by angels who passed before him, on Monday June 6, 2016 with his loving family by his side. William was born on July 7, 1934 the son of Stanley and Mary (Domochowska) Kowiatek. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Proctor High School. William honorably served as a medic in the US Army. He was employed with General Electric Company, radio receiver division for 34 years until his retirement in 1986, as General Electric closed that section of business, holding many positions throughout the years. On August 27, 1960, William married Maggie Hajjar and the couple had four children together; Michael (Monica) Kowiatek, Linda (Karl) Couglar, Lisa (Joseph) Metacarpa and Cynthia (Kenneth) White. Maggie passed away in Dec of 1982. On April 28, 1984 Bill married his present wife, the former Mary Ellen Marr (Lavier) and acquired three more children, Lisa (Stuart) Fowler, Brian (Denise) Lavier and Paula Zaleski and James Brady. and from that union also came a son Eric Kowiatek. He was so proud of all his children for all their accomplishments in life. Bill was an avid NY Rangers, NY Yankees, NY Giants and Utica Comets fan and was a member of American Legion post 1376 in New Hartford. In recent years, Bill loved camping at the St Lawrence River at his nephews camp (Rick Carr) whom he had a special relationship with. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Kowiatek is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen; his 8 loving children, 26 cherished grandchildren and 13 adored great grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Carr and Bernice (Harry) Kaelin; in-laws, Richard Marr and Joseph (Katie) Marr as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Vincent (Deli) Salerno with whom he shared a 67 year friendship and longtime friends, Richard Boucher and John Service He was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Norma Marr and brother-in-law, Charles Carr. Mr. Kowiatek's funeral will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 422 Coventry Ave, N. Utica, where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be held at the convenience of the Family. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation in Bill memory. The family would like to acknowledge Jeffrey French and the entire staff at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany for the wonderful care they provided to Bill while he was in their care.
