Mrs. Pia (Pat) L. Murphy, 89, of Utica, passed away on Saturday June 4, 2016 at Menorah Park in Syracuse, NY Pat was born in Trento Province, Italy, on February 12, 1927 the daughter of Leopaldo and Elena (Gentelini) Widmann. She came to the US at 18 month of age, was raised and educated in Utica and was a 1946 graduate of Proctor High School. On May 20, 1950, Pia married Edward J. Murphy a devoted union of 60 years until Edward’s death in 2010. For 19 years, she was employed with General Electric Company Radio Receiver Plant and for 16 years as an inspector with Utica Cutlery Company until her retirement at age 66. Pat enjoyed family and friends and was an active member of First Baptist Church in N. Utica where she formerly served on the Board of Deacons. For many years, she was also active with Stone Croft Ministries Christian Business Women’s Club. A lover of music, she attended the great artist series performances for over 30 years and built a large collection of vinyl LP’s, tapes and CD recordings. Always a friend to animals, Pat gave a home to many a tray cat that came her way. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Murphy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terrence and Mary Lynn Murphy of Syracuse as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and two sisters Rose Raiano and Rena Kellogg. Mrs. Murphy’s funeral will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 515 Herkimer Rd., Utica, NY 13502 in Pat’s memory.
