Obituary of Henry J. Lopata

Henry J. Lopata, 70, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
Henry was born June 12, 1945, in Utica, the son of Henry A. and Stella (Savicki) Lopata. He was raised and educated in Clinton, graduating Class of 1964, where he had been in The Industrial Arts Club, as well as on the track and football teams. In 1965, Henry was drafted and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. On October 12, 1968, Henry married Phyllis Bielby, sharing a union of over 47 years. Henry attended the National Meat Cutters School in Toledo, Ohio, and worked as a meat cutter for over 25 years. He then earned his degree and certificate from MVCC in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration, at which time he proudly owned and operated Lopata Heating & Air Conditioning. Henry loved camping with his wife, snowmobiling with his brothers, and daily visits with his uncle, cousins and friends. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton and of the Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post # 232, Franklin Springs.
Henry is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lopata; his son, Heath Lopata; his daughter, Hilary Lopata (& Bill Siddon); his grandson, Andrej Nawoj; a sister, Barbara-Jo Deep; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Cindy Lopata, Michael and Julie Lopata, James and Debbie Lopata; brother-in-law, Norman P. Deep; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and truly wonderful friends and neighbors.
Mr. Lopata's funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Monday evening from 4 - 7 pm. The Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post # 232 will conduct their ceremony at 6:45 pm.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the Clinton Volunteer Fire Dept., the American Cancer Society, or to Wanderer's Rest in Henry's memory.
