John R. Crossley, 90, of Utica passed away at home on Sunday, March 27, 2016. John was born in Utica on August 3, 1925, the son of Jennie Mae Hemmel and received his education in local schools. He was a Army veteran of World War II and served with the 121st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in the European Theatre. John was employed with Beaunit Fibers for 28 years and then later until his retirement he was employed with the Utica School System. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1113, Whitesboro and did volunteer work at MVCC. John was a proud and humble man who will be remembered as a strong and caring father. One of his happiest and most cherished memories was celebrating his 90th birthday in 2015 with his family. John is survived by his children, George and Linda Crossley, Whitesboro, Denise Richardson, NC, Loren Fuhrken, Evans Mills, NY and Timothy Crossley, Whitesboro, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his girlfriend, Katy Luczka, a sister, Violet Garramone and brothers, Robert, William, Edward and Raymond Crossley. Mr. Crossley's funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in John's memory. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Joyce, Nancy and Dr. Dan. American Legion Post # 1113 will meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
