Obituary of David R. Williams

Mr. David R. Williams, 65, of Rome, NY passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford surrounded by his loving family.
David was born in Utica on November 18, 1951 the son of Russell (Tiny) and Dorothy (Sokolowski) Williams. He was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in N. Utica. A US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, David proudly served aboard the USS Little Rock and after his honorable discharge from the Navy, continued serving his country in the Naval reserves. Upon returning to Utica from his service, he met and was swept off of his feet by his future bride, Debra A. Daum. On September 20, 1975, they were married at St. Mark's Church in N. Utica and enjoyed more than 41 years of happiness and joy. David’s career was spent as a Secure Care Treatment Aide with NY State Children and Youth Services in Utica and Marcy, retiring in 2006. David also helped out his family’s business, North Utica Dairy Ice Company, with his sons by his side. For many years, he served on the board of the Marcy Federal Credit Union. He was also elected to serve several terms as a town of Floyd councilman in for the third district. He was also proud to oversee the design and building of playground equipment in the Town of Floyd Park. David also coached his sons and their friends with Northern Community Pop Warner and was an avid golf enthusiast. David was honored to serve as current and past commander of American Legion Roberts Post 161 in Holland Patent, past commander of the Oneida County American Legion, past president of the Stanwicks Veterans Men's Club, and a member and board member of the VFW in Yorkville. Among David's many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and specifically his son's Jason and Jeremy and especially his 3 precious grandchildren.
Mr. Williams is survived by his beloved wife, Debby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Cayce Williams of Chattanooga, TN and Jeremy and Bethany Williams of Barneveld, NY and his grandchildren, Dylan, Brooklyn, and Kharis; one sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and Paul Strife of Marcy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Linda Williams of Whitesboro and Russell, Jr. and Patricia Williams of Marcy; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Daum of N. Utica; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Daum of Barneveld, Michael and Marge Daum of Richfield Springs, and Susan and John LoCash of Marcy as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his father-in-law, Robert H. Daum.
Mr. Williams' memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, 440 Keyes Rd., N. Utica. His burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital in David's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
