Mrs. Johan G. Leach, 93, formerly of Utica, NY, passed away, Thursday, August 31, 2017 at St. John’s Home in Rochester, NY with her family by her side. Johan was born in Utica on February 23, 1924, the daughter of Timothy and Mary (Boon) Slade. She graduated from Utica Catholic Academy in 1941. She then attended Comptometer School. On May 17, 1947, Johan married James William Leach (Bill) at St Francis de Sales Church in Utica. Bill passed away October 11, 1999. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997. Johan was employed by Savage Arms. She later retired in 1986 from Utica Club Brewery after 27 years. She had been a brownie leader, swimmer at the YWCA into her 90’s, and an active member of St Thomas Church, New Hartford. Johan is survived by daughter Maureen Loiacano and son-in-law Tom Loiacano, Houston, TX; daughter Barbara Fraser, Fairport, NY; daughter-in-law Cindi Leach, Whitesboro; six grandchildren: Jason Leach, Whitesboro; Scott Loiacano and his wife, Becca, FL; Dr.’s Megan Almond and her husband, Jed, GA; Mark Loiacano and his wife, Danielle, TX; Luke Fraser, PA; and Claire Fraser, MA; seven great-grandchildren: Scott Loiacano, Joey Loiacano, Benjamin Almond, Hannah Almond, Laila Almond, Dominick Loiacano and Genevieve Loiacano; her brother Kenneth Slade, Utica, two sister-in-law’s Anna Leach, Marcy and Phoebe Slade, New Hartford, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons Thomas Leach in 1957 and William Leach in 1983, one sister Rosemary Mott and one brother Timothy Slade. Mrs. Leach’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from St. Thomas Church, New Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 – 7.
