Taken in part from selected poems of W.H. Auden Richard W. Costello, passed away at home on Saturday, January 16, 2016 after a short illness. Dick was born in Rome, NY on November 12, 1939, the son of the late William and Mary (Carnevale) Costello. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. Dick was an Army Veteran from July 1959 to July 1961 and subsequently was employed at Griffiss AFB and ended a career as a Contract Specialist retiring in 1994. Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling around the world and going to the casino. Dick is survived by his wife, Mary (Zongrone), whom he shared 36 years of a wonderful life. He is also survived by a son, William, of Key Largo, FL, a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Anna Costello, in laws, Anthony and Carolyn Zangrone and Theodore and Santina Wurz, nieces and nephews, Bernadette, Salvatore, Ted, John, David, Mary Rose, and Laura, a special cousin, Elizabeth Carnevale and many great nieces and nephews. Mr. Costello's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John's Church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 - 7. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to his nieces, Mary Rose and Laura, who were always there with help and care in Dick's last months, and thanks to the beautiful people of Hospice for their loving and excellent care of Dick.
