John A. Trietiak, 90, of Deerfield, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 17, 2016. John was born in Rome, NY on February 25, 1925, a son of Wasyl and Anna (Ena Czarny) Tretiak and received his education in the Frankfort schools. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and served in Okinawa. John married Myrtle "Betty" Blakley on August 1, 1947, a blessed union of 65 years until her death on November 9, 2012. He started his working career at Chicago Pneumatic and then for many years, until his retirement in 1987, John was employed with Bendix Corp. During his retirement John enjoyed gardening, making stained glass lamps, and restoring classic cars, for which he won numerous awards, his pride and joy being a 1969 Corvette Coupe. John is survived by his daughter, Sheila Larsen and husband Robert, of Utica, a granddaughter, Meegan Bunaisky and husband Ryan, of Syracuse, a great granddaughter, Kaleigh Maloof, of Syracuse, his canine companion, Dixie and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Cieply, of Syracuse and two brothers, Paul Trietiak, of Utica and Eugene Tretiak, of Frankfort. A short Funeral service with Military Honors for Mr. Trietiak will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4 - 7. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Please omit flowers. Those so wishing may make donations to the Shriners' Hospital at Shrinershospital.org or envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
