Mr. Edward John Gormley, Jr., 71, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his home. Edward was born in Utica on August 24, 1944 the son of Edward John and Ruth (Miller) Gormley. He was raised and educated locally and completed his electricians apprentice program with IBEW. Edward served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On January 2, 1971, Edward married Sharon Stewart. For many years, he was employed as an Electrician with IBEW local 181/43 until his retirement in 2004. Edward enjoyed spending time at his camp on Piseco Lake and after retirement spending the winter in Barefoot Bay, Fl. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Gormley is survived by his beloved wife Sharon; two sons, a daughter-in-law and two cherished grandsons; James and Lynne Gormley and their sons, John and George of Albany and Daniel Gormley of Albany; one sister, Marilyn Brown of Whitesboro; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Burke of New Hartford, Richard Stewart of Oneida, Timothy and Susan Stewart of Morresville, NC and Diana and Thomas Banks of Cicero, NY as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet Burke and brother-in-law, Len Brown. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for Edward on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. His interment will be held at the convenience of his family. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday, January 3rd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
