Sandra Durr Afinowich, 77, of Whitesboro passed away at home on Thursday, October 15, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Sandra was born in Utica on June 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Stewart and Agnes (Johnson) Durr. She was raised and educated in the Utica area and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. On September 19, 1959, Sandra was united in marriage to Peter J. Afinowich, a blessed union of 55 years until his death on March 29, 2015. Sandra was employed with the American Greetings Co in the Utica area for many years. She especially enjoyed her regular visits to the Maine coast with family and friends. Sandra is survived by her two children, Peter Afinowich and wife, Lynn, of Sauquoit and Kimberly Sears and husband, Jeffrey, of New Hartford, three grandchildren, Savannah, Forrest and Tucker Sears, all of New Hartford, a sister, Linda Battaglia, of Utica, and nieces and nephews Renee (Paul) Mineo of New Hartford, Tricia (Stanley) Kocyba of Barneveld and Stephen (Kim) Battaglia of New Hartford. In addition to her husband, Sandra was predeceased by a grandson, Dane Sears, a brother-in-law, Steven Battaglia and her beloved Yorkie, Hannie. A Celebration of Life for Sandra will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Those so wishing may make donations to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Toby Taylor, Cheryl and Jen from Hospice, Kim Hajjar, who was always there for a good laugh and Sandra's good friend Barb, for the countless hours of telephone calls.
