Mr. John T. Zimmerman, Sr., 94, of Deerfield, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. John was born in Utica on October 23, 1920 the son of John Francis and Esther Ruth (Hoben) Zimmerman and received his education in local schools. John honorably served in the US Army during WW II. On January 27, 1944, John married Mary Elizabeth Bassett, a loving and devoted union of 71 years. As a young man, John was employed as a farmer in Holland Patent and for 32 years as a truck driver with Utica Club/West End Brewery in Utica. He attended St. Peter's Church in N. Utica and was a skilled handyman. Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; five children, John (Jack) T. Zimmerman, Jr., of Deerfield, Gary and Sharon Zimmerman of Nashua, NH, Linus Zimmerman of Deerfield, Janet George of Deerfield and Susan Zimmerman of Nashua, NH; a daughter-in-law, Renee Zimmerman of FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Sue Zimmerman of FL as well as 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald F. Zimmerman, one brother, Eddie Zimmerman and three sisters, Dorothy Joslin, Esther Burnheart and Mary Gage. Mr. Zimmerman's funeral will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. His burial with military honors will be in Holland Patent Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
