Arlene Ann Roth, 88, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY in New Hartford, formerly of Utica, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the nursing home. Arlene was born in Utica on June 9, 1927 the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Mary (Zobel) Roth. She was raised in Utica, attended Sacred Heart grade school in Utica, was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, class of 1945, St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and completed her post graduate studies in Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, NJ and at Utica College. Arlene was employed with St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, Obstetric Department for 39 1/2 years. She began as a staff nurse, was promoted to head nurse and clinical instructor and finally as a supervisor. Arlene was a member of St. Luke's Memorial Alumni Association, the Lucy Kellogg Relief Society, the American Nurses Association and District 7, New York State Nurses Association. She was also a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, a member and volunteer nurse in the Heenan Spiritual Programs for the handicapped where she accompanied them for 20 years on their annual pilgrimages to the Canadian Shrines. She led the groups four times and was a member of the "Aides of St. Anne de Beaupe Shrine" in Quebec, Canada. She was a certified C.C.D. instructor and taught Catholic Religion at the former Rome State School. Arlene was a former member of "Birthright" and an affiliate of the Society of Mary in Dayton Ohio. Arlene also sang in many church choirs including; St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, St. Francis de Sales Church, St. Mary's Church (on South St), St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro, Sacred Heart Church, St. Patrick's Church in Forestport and with the former Gamma Chi Glee Club in Utica. She was most recently attending the Church of The Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady Czestochowa in NY Mills and was a lector and Eucharistic Minister for her church, her friends and relatives in need. Miss Roth is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Jane Roth of New Hartford; devoted nephew, Robert John and Cynthia Roth of Utica; two beloved great nephews, Robert Francis Roth of CA and Connor Michael Roth of Utica; many cousins, especially Bridget and Michael Parisi and their children of Deerfield and the entire Noga family and dear friends, Karen and Casimer Szczesniak. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary, brother and sister-in-law, Francis John and Rosemary Roth, and little sister, Mary Adelaide Roth at age 2 1/2 years. Miss Roth's funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 9:45 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:30 at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in NY Mills. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Children's Miracles Network at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital in New Hartford in Arlene's memory. God granted me the gift of my nursing profession to care for those in need. I was privileged to assist in the births of so many babies, to welcome them into this world and to share the joy of "New Life" with many moms and dads.
