Obituary of William J. Mahanna II
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William J. Mahanna II, 56, of Barneveld, New York passed away July 19, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was the first of 10 children and he taught us all many of life's lessons. He had a wonderful education at Oneida BOCES and he was a very talented athlete who won several medals in the Special Olympics. Bill loved life, music, dancing, swimming, bowling, skiing, biking, shopping and all of the family/friends gatherings. Bill had an infectious smile and when someone would give him a compliment, Bill would return the compliment right back. He took drum lessons for 20 years from various community musicians who Bill greatly admired. He received long-term services from The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter and worked 29 years at the State Office Building; he loved all of his many friends and spoke of them even to this day. Bill had a very active life with all of his sisters, brothers and entire family that just adored him. Bill was our life and we were Bill's life. What we gave Bill, Bill gave back to all of us tenfold. Bill is survived by his mother, Maryann (Molly) Mahanna, his sisters, Christine and Alan Johnson, Ann and Gregg Olin, Jane Mahanna, Kate and Paul Livingston, and Ellen Mahanna. His brothers, Justin J. and Tricia Mahanna, Paul Mahanna, Matthew and his fiancé, Stacie Alexiou. He is also survived by his uncle, William K. Crane, 16 nieces and nephews, several cousins, Mulkern Family and a very special family friend, Joan Thomas. Bill was predeceased by his loving father, William, his brother, Nicholas and his nephew, William A. Johnson. Funeral Services for Bill will be held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica, and at 11:00 am at St. Leo's Church, Holland Patent, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
