Arthur W. "Speedy" Burns, Jr., 87, of Utica passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Masonic Care Community. Arthur was born in Utica on October 20, 1927, the son of Arthur W. and Mildred (Olcott) Burns Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. Arthur married Nancy Carroll at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on July 18, 1953. For many years until his retirement, Arthur was employed with N.Y. Telephone. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a 20 year member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel and a community volunteer. Arthur is survived by his wife, Nancy, his three children, Patricia Stiles and husband Josh, of Bernardsville, NJ, Michael Burns, of Charlotte, NC and Arthur Burns, III, of Utica, four grandchildren, Jennifer Burns LaVeck and husband Chris, Theresa Burns Antonelli and husband Jordan, Curtis Stiles and fiancee Hillary Sims and Katherine Stiles Lane and husband Matt, four great grandchildren, Cole, Gabby, Alyssa and Kaylyn, two sisters-in-law, Joan Youngdale, of Hornell, NY and Norma Clarke, of Utica, a brother-in-law Bill Carroll and wife Margie, of Old Forge, cousins, The Bertholds and their families and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Burns' funeral will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10:30 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 11:00 from St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, Utica. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Mother Marianne West Side Kitchen in Arthur's memory.
