Mr. Edward P. Babowicz, Sr., 91, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 17, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Edward was born in Utica on November 26, 1923, the son of Alexander and Helen (Kaminski) Babowicz. He was raised and educated in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, Mohawk Valley Community College and attended Syracuse University. Edward proudly served in the US Army during WW II. In 1951, Edward married Jessie C. Wojdyla at Transfiguration Church of Our Lord in Rome, NY, a devoted union of 63 years until Jessie's death in 2014. Prior to his service in the US Army, Edward was employed with Savage Arms and for many years he was employed as a Manufacturing Engineer Programmer with Chicago Pneumatic Company until his retirement after 37 years of dedicated service. Edward enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, fishing and going to the casino. He was also a very talented "Gadget" maker for anything that needed to be fixed and was a stamp and coin collector. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Utica. Mr. Babowicz is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Edward, Jr. and Kathy Babowicz of Westmoreland; two cherished grandchildren, Jason Babowicz and his fiancée , Samantha Barnes of Westmoreland and Kristin Matthews and her husband Hal of Westmoreland; a great grandson, Tristan Matthews of Westmoreland; a sister-in-law, Helen Babowicz of Utica; a close family friend, Jim Rondinelli as well as several nieces and nephews., including his God daughter, Susan Green. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Sahli and Jane Smolka and a brother, Walter Babowicz. In keeping with Mr. Babowicz's wishes, his funeral will be held privately at the convenience of his family. His Rite of Committal and entombment, with military honors, will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. There are no calling hours.
