Obituary of Royce D. Armstrong

Royce D. Armstrong, 90, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Royce was born in New Hartford on November 16, 1924, son of Warren and Lois (Baum) Armstrong. He attended local schools graduating from Utica Free Academy in 1943. He served in the Army Air Force for three years during World War II. Royce married his beloved, Irene Bruni in September of 1980, having enjoyed a loving union of 35 years. He was employed by various industries, including Bendix and General Electric. For a brief time, he was Blood Program Coordinator for the Red Cross, during which time he donated 14 gallons of blood. He worked for the Savings Bank of Utica for 17 years until his retirement. Royce was an avid golfer and was a member of the Super Seniors Group for many years. Royce is survived by his wife Irene, son, Paul Armstrong, of Dayton, OH, son, David Armstrong, of Utica, daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Timothy Dunn, of Marcy, stepdaughter, Marsha Hurst, of CA and a stepson, Alex Bruni of Deerfield. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kristen and Paul Borko, of Bradenton, FL, Samantha Hurst, of PA, Colleen Dunn, of AZ and Katherine Dunn, of Marcy, and a great granddaughter, Gabriella Borko, of FL. Mr. Armstrong's funeral service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
