Obituary of Lloyd Bailie DuPrau

Mr. Lloyd Bailie DuPrau, 92, of Acacia Village in Utica, formerly of Wappingers Falls, NY, North Utica and Springfield, PA passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Lloyd was born on October 17, 1922 in Farrans Point Ontario, Canada, the son of William and Victoria (Rutley) DuPrau. Lloyd received his high school education in Wappingers Falls, NY and also Utica Free Academy where he graduated in 1941. Lloyd was a strong athlete in basketball and baseball and this was where he was affectionately given the nickname of "Dup". In 1941 Lloyd enlisted in the US Army but was never called up until the spring of '43. He was a Sergeant with Company C, 721st Railway Operations Battalion that was deployed to India. It was his dedicated service in protecting his country in the armed forced that earned him his US citizenship. Upon returning to Utica Area, Lloyd was employed with New York Central Railroad. On April 19, 1947, Lloyd married Margaret (Peggy) June Weaver, a devoted union of 55 Years until Peggy's death in 2002. Lloyd later worked as a member of the labor Relations Board in Syracuse, was a Trainmaster in Rochester and Trainmaster in Utica. He was then selected to be a supervisor on the North East Coast division of the newly formed Penn Central Railroad in Philadelphia, a position he held until his retirement in 1983 after 42 years of service in the railroad industry. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Utica for over 50 years, a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Utica and he loved sports and enjoyed fishing. Mr. DuPrau is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Deborah DuPrau of Poland, NY and Cynthia Payne DuPrau of Utica; four grandchildren, Robert DuPrau and his wife Abigail of Rochester, Elizabeth DuPrau and her fiancée Charles Pulluaim of Deerfield, Christopher DuPrau and his wife Adriana of Parkville, MD and Jennifer DuPrau and her fiancée Gino Scattareggia of Albany; one great grandson, Lucas DuPrau of Parkville, MD; three nieces, Lucille Reinsdorf of Rhinebeck, NY, Marilyn Schneider and her husband Fred of Hillsborough, NJ and Lori Emmill of Canada; five nephews, William DuPrau and his wife Bonnie of Canada, George DuPrau and his wife Sharon of Canada, Scott Weaver of CA, Tom Weaver of MA and Robert "Rip" Weaver and his wife Nawal of Canada and a special friend, Ms. Christine Larson of Springfield, PA; He was predeceased by his son, John "Jack" DuPrau and daughter-in-law, Lois M. DuPrau. A memorial service for Mr. DuPrau will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. His burial in Forest Hill Cemetery in Utica will be held at the convenience of his family. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 11:00-1:00 prior to the memorial service.
