Florida / Clinton, NY - Alberta J. Occhionero, 87, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at University Hospital in Tamarac, Florida, where she spent her winters. Alberta was born June 9, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of John and Anna (Visocky) Huchko. She was raised and educated in Rome, NY, and a graduate of St. Aloysius Catholic High School. On November 14, 1948, Alberta married Emanuel V. Occhionero, in Transfiguration Church in Rome. Mr. Occhionero passed away on February 8, 1988. Aside from being a full time mother and grandmother, Alberta also owned and operated the Pine Crest Motel in New Hartford with her husband for over 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, where she would make and donate baby blankets, afghans, as well as food. She also belonged to a local seniors group, and enjoyed attending their functions. Alberta enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting and loved cooking, especially for her family. Alberta is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Rita Occhionero, and her husband, Jim Schuman, Sunrise, FL, Julie Toha, Whitesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Patricia Occhionero, Clinton; six grandchildren, Alicia Carrier, Nicholas Occhionero, Amanda Occhionero, Martin Toha, Julian Toha, and Robert Toha; as well as three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Michael Huchko, Rome. Alberta is predeceased by one sister, Caroline Matwijec; and two brothers, John and Richard Huchko. Mrs. Occhionero's funeral will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. A private interment in St. John's Cemetery in Rome will take place in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Friday evening, February 13, 2015, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. Those wishing may donate to Catholic Charities or to the American Heart Association in Alberta's memory.
