Donald J. Ryznar, 77, of Deerfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 11, 2014. Donald was born in Utica on July 25, 1937, a son of Lucille (Wolkowicz) Ryznar and the late Walter Ryznar. He was raised and educated in Utica and proudly served in the U.S. Army. Donald married Marilyn Kane at St. Joseph's Church, Utica on September 7, 1963. He began his working career at Oneida National Bank and was employed there for over 40 years. After his retirement, he became a substitute teacher at Holland Patent High School, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Donald was a parishioner of St. Joseph's & St. Patrick's Church, Utica. He was a basketball enthusiast and looked forward to going to the Fitness Mill every day. Donald is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his mother, Lucille Ryznar, of Utica, his three children, Karen Remis and husband David, of ME, Kathleen Barocsi and husband David, of New York Mills, and John Ryznar and wife Joanna, of CT, three grandchildren, Michaela Remis, Jeffrey Remis and Sienna Ryznar, and a sister, Deborah Rocco and husband Frank, of Sauquoit. Mr. Rzynar's funeral with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Joseph's and St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a scholarship fund being set up in memory of Donald, at Holland Patent High School.
