John H. Shibley, 73, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Utica, NY, passed away October 14, 2014 at his home. John was born December 24, 1940, in Utica, the son of John E. and Mary L. (Eilers) Shibley. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Free Academy and later received his Associates Degree from MVCC. John went on to serve his country with the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany. After returning from service, John eventually made his home in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was employed with the Georgia State Department of Taxation. John was an avid soccer fan. He enjoyed photography and loved his cats. John was of the Catholic faith. John is survived by his mother, Mary L. Shibley, Schuyler; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) and Frederick Ayers, Albany; a sister-in-law, Jean Shibley, Altus, OK; as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by two brothers, David E. and Nicholas J. Shibley and by one sister, Therese Marie Shibley. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Mark's Church, North Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. There are no calling hours. Those wishing may donate to the American Heart Association or to your local humane society in John's memory. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica.
