Donald R. Hahn, 85, of New York Mills, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 1, 2014 Don was born on February 5, 1929 in Utica, the son of Michael Joseph ("Joe") and Nora (Rocke) Hahn. Don graduated from Utica Free Academy and earned a BA in Business at Utica College. Following a stint in the US Army during the Korean conflict, Don went on to work at General Electric in Utica, beginning in the Salvage Department and working his way up to a Production Supervisor position, finally retiring from GE in 1989 after 36 years of continuous service. Don married his high school sweetheart, Sybil J. Werren, on August 25, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church. Sybil passed away earlier this year, on July 31, 2014. Their union of 63 years blessed them with six children, whom they raised together at their home in New York Mills. In retirement, Don took on the task of researching and recording his family history and genealogy, sharing his finding with the various branches of the family. Don was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Rosary Church and a member of the American Legion Post #1376, New Hartford. He will be forever remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his wife and family, his quick wit, the kindness and generosity he displayed toward all, and his "beautiful blue eyes". Don is survived by his six children, Karen (Paul) Wagner of New Hartford, Kathleen (Richard) Maloney of Utica, Kristine (John) Hoffman of Wallingford, CT, Donald Hahn Jr. (Sue) of Whitesboro, Stephen Hahn (Jacquelyn) of New Hartford, and Karl Hahn (Kristin) of Rome; his grandchildren Kristine, Matthew, Kimberly, Mark, Michael, Kerry, Lauren, Erin, Meghan, Bryan, Nicole, Leanne, Vanessa, Elizabeth and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Katherine and Nathan; his beloved sister Norma Daniels of Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by several siblings, Marjorie May, Robert, James and Richard Hahn. Mr. Hahn's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4 - 7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Siegenthaler Center in Donald's memory. The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Siegenthaler Center for the care and comfort they provided to Don and his family.
