Harriet G. Schultz, 93, of Utica, passed away in the comfort of her home on Monday, August 18, 2014 with her daughter by her side. Harriet was born August 17, 1921, in Utica, the daughter of Frank and Walerya (Stempurski) Gubala. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Free Academy in 1940. On August 22, 1943, Harriet married William E. Schultz in New York City. Mr. Schultz passed away in 1978. Harriet had been employed with Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring in the early 1950's to raise her family. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting, gardening, and spending time with her family at her camp in Old Forge. Harriet was of the Catholic faith and a former member of Holy Trinity Church in Utica. Harriet is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Anthony Spina, Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Catherine Schultz, Sauquoit; four grandchildren, Jennifer Spina Wambsgan (& husband, Joe), Phoenix, AZ; Heidi Parslow (& husband, Mike) Utica; Matthew Schultz, Sauquoit; Cathy Clark, Utica; four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Wambsgan, Landon and Tristan Parslow; one sister and one brother, Jessie Gubala and Stanley Gubala, both of Utica, as well as by several nieces and nephews. Harriet is predeceased by a grandson, Jason Spina; three sisters, Agnes Szczesniak, Estelle Reed, and Amelia Pascarella; and one brother, Frank Gubala. A Memorial Service will be held for Mrs. Schultz on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica. Interment, in Crown Hill Memorial Park, will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10 - 11 am, prior to the service. A special thanks to her nephew, William Reed, and his wife Milly, for their unconditional love and support and to "the girls" for the love and care they gave her.
