Gwen E. Dote, 83, of the St. Luke's Home passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Gwen was born in Shelby, SC on November 28, 1930, a daughter of Quinton and Ruth (O'Sheilds) Shytle. Gwen married George A. Dote at St. John's Church, Utica on January 8, 1949, a blessed union of 57 years until his death on February 2, 2006. For many years Gwen ran a home day care business. She attended St. Mark's Church and St. Peter's Church in North Utica, where at one time she was a religious education teacher. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing. Gwen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Vernon Inman of Clayville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Cookie Dote of Clayville and Brion and Cheryl Dote of Utica, 14 grandchildren, Terry Dote Jr. and wife Ginny, Danica Hoch and husband Joshua, Jeremy Inman, Kimberly Wilkinson, Elizabeth Richards and husband Dan, Melissa Richards, Eric Ferguson, Niki Marlow, Timothy Ferguson and wife Coyrn, Zachary Wing and fiancée Alyssa Vaeth, Stephanie Wing and fiancée Leo Kopp, Maggie Wing, Patrick Wing and Alex Kopage and wife Lisa, 10 great grandchildren, Jacob Inman, Nikeya Hoch, Zach Wilkinson, Glen Wilkinson, Brandon Cook, Kevin Getti, Colin Jewett, Rebecca Richards, Sophia Ferguson and Dustin Kopp, and two brothers, Dennis Shytle and Mickey Shytle both of NC. Mrs. Dote's funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery, N. Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4-7.
