Michael J. "Doc" Hickey, Sr., 68, of Schuyler passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Mike was born in Utica on December 18, 1945, a son of the late John and Alice (Evans) Hickey. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and MVCC. Mike was an Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. Mike married Patricia Schroeder in Utica on June 10, 1967. Mike was a member of St. Mark's Church, N. Utica, a life member of the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department, taking care of its Ambulance Corp. for 32 years and serving in many administration positions in both the Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. Mike was instrumental in establishing the emergency medical services for the Town of Schuyler. He also served on the Mid-State Regional Emergency Medical Services Council since its inception and taught at Faxton-St. Luke's Midstate EMS. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Schuyler, the D.A.V. and volunteered for KAVAC, Amcare , Adirondack Air and the Boilermaker. Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Pat, a daughter, Wendy Caliguire and fiancée James Sylvester of Schuyler, a son, Mike Hickey of CA, two grandchildren, Miles and K.J. Hickey and their mother, Lisa Lehman Hickey, a sister, Patricia Calliari of Schuyler, three brothers, Thomas Hickey and wife, Lorraine of Staten Island, NY, Bill Hickey of Costa Rica and Raymond Hickey of Utica. Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John Hickey, a brother-in-law, Paul Calliari, a sister-in-law, Michele Hickey and a niece, Kathy Lynn. Mr. Hickey's funeral with Fire Department and Military Honors will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 10:00 from St. Mark's Church, North Utica. Burial will take place in the West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Schuyler Ambulance, Inc.. in Mike's memory.
